We conducted research into the documentary industry to see who is making similar products to the one we're going to make. We also identified why they may want to help us distribute our final product once we have made it.

Dispatches for Channel 4

'Dispatches' is a documentary series which is produced by Channel 4. It deals with issues concerning British society and culture. Topics have included; sports, health, religion, terrorism, the environment and politics. As a institution, Channel 4 aims to appeal to a diverse tastes of our society. This is brought across through the diverse range of documentaries made on their behalf. They may be interested in distributing my product as it is relevant to British society and I have covered a topic which they haven't done before.

Perspectives for ITV

'Perspectives' is a documentary series which is produced and made for ITV. The topics covered in the four documentaries range from life today to historical art. They are very factual and each documentary covers a different subject. As an institution ITV aims to reach new audiences through interesting programmes. This is brought across through their documentaries which cover a wide range of topics to reach lots of different audiences. They may be interested in our product as it's going to be very factual and also be a standalone documentary like they make. 

Vanguard for Current TV

'Vanguard' is a documentary series which is made for Current TV. The documentary series prides itself for reporting on social issues which affect the world. Although not well known, they have received many of the media industries most coveted journalism awards.


 They may be interested in taking our product aboard as the safety of social networking is an important issue worldwide that they haven't previously explored. However, Current TV's website allows amateur documentary makers to upload any documentary they make onto their website. This way all of the online community from around the world will be able to see our product. 

Panorama for the BBC

'Panorama' is the worlds longest running investigative TV documentary series and is made for the BBC. They work as part of the News section of the BBC so they always have up to date information. As an institution, the BBC prides itself on being honest and impartial. It's mission is to enrich their viewers lives with programmes that inform, educate and entertain. These values are brought across through the documentaries they make. They focus on making current affairs documentaries about a range of subjects from around the world. They have a very good reputation within the media industry and have brought attention to a lot of problems within our society. Their films win lots of reputable awards. I think they would be interested in our product as they investigate current problems from around the world which affects society.
