3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

I felt it was important to gather audience feedback throughout the production of my three media products, as it allowed me to see how my target audience reacted to the different products and to find out what they thought about them. This enabled me to improve my product and create a final version which they liked and would consume. These are the different bits of audience feedback I gathered from my target audience for the different media products I created:

Documentary
We asked two small focus groups consisting of 16-19 year olds the following questions about our final documentary extract:
  1. Did you enjoy the documentary?
  2. Do you think the audio is at a suitable volume?
  3. Do you think we have interviewed the appropriate people? If not, why?
  4. Do you think the framing of the shots were suitable? If not, why?
  5. Can you read the text in the captions easily?
  6. What did you like about the documentary? Why?
  7. Would you be interested in watching the rest of the documentary? If not, why?
  8. Do you think it’s suitable for a target audience of 16-19 year olds? If not, why?
  9. Do you have any other comments?
This was their response:

Focus Group 1

Focus Group 2

From this we have learnt:

The feedback we received from our audience was very positive. I believe that our documentary extract has been successful as our audience liked it and wanted to watch the rest of the documentary. It has therefore been successful in appealing to the demographic of 16-19 year olds.

If we look at the feedback we received in relation to The Reception Theory, we learn that our target audience received the dominant and preferred reading of our media product as they came away more aware and wary of the issues and opportunities surrounding social networking. This is significant as it means we have successfully encoded our documentary with the correct codes and conventions so our target audience could decode the meaning correctly.

(We have also previously conducted research on the rough edit of our documentary. The results of this feedback can be found here and here.)

Ancillary Task 1
From the audience feedback I gathered here and here, I have learnt the following:

Ancillary Task 2
From the audience feedback I gathered here and here, I have learnt the following:

In conclusion, I believe that my two ancillary tasks have been very successful as my feedback shows that my target audience would be interested in watching my documentary after seeing/ reading my double page spread and newspaper advert. This is significant because if these two products are successful, they will contribute to the success of the documentary as the target audience will be more aware of it.
