Technical Diagrams

We have created technical diagrams to show how we are going to set up the lighting some of the more complicated shots.

Camera Composition
The diagram below shows the camera composition for one of the interview shots.

We have provided the subject with 'looking room' to make the shot look more professional and to fit in with the codes and convention of a typical documentary. We have also applied the Rule of Thirds here. The subject's (the presenter) face lies on the intersection of two lines to draw the audience's attention to them. We will use this technique in all of the interview and presenting section to make the documentary visually interesting.

Lighting Setup
These are the diagrams we have created to show how our lighting is going to be set up. We used http://www.lightingdiagrams.com/ to create these diagrams. The following image is the key of the different symbols.

The following diagram illustrates how we are going to setup our lighting for the interview with Mr Parker. We will also use this setup for when the presenter is talking to the camera at a computer.

Here we will use a key and fill light to illuminate the subjects face and body. The key light will get rid of any harsh shadows which are cast by the fill light. We won't use a back light as we want to make sure that the person talking has all of the audience's attention.

This diagram illustrates how we will set up the lighting when we film the shot where the presenter is walking towards to camera.
We will use natural lighting from the sun to illuminate the shot. This means we will have to make sure that the weather is suitable for filming on the day. We will also have to time the filming right to get the perfect light conditions for filming.

[Update 23/3/12- After a consultation with our teacher, we have decided to film an interview with a victim of cyber bullying. The lighting set up for the shot is portrayed in the diagram below. The black out curtains to the back of the shot will enable us to create low key lighting to show the intimacy of setting and seriousness of the topic.  We will use a single key light to create shadows and contrast within the shot.

We therefore also have to film a new presenter link. The lighting setup is in the diagram below.]
